Offering smooth fluid movement, quick setup and dependable performance, it's an excellent choice for mirrorless cameras, compact cinema cameras and ENG-style productions where portability is just as important as stability.
More Information
The 504HD sits below tripod systems such as the Sachtler Video 18, Sachtler FSB6 and Compass 25 in terms of payload capacity and overall specification, but that doesn't stop it being a solid, dependable option for a huge range of productions. Modern cameras have become significantly smaller and lighter, meaning the 504HD comfortably supports many of today's most popular camera systems, including cameras such as the Sony FX3Sony ILME FX3 , FX6
Sony ILME FX6 , Canon R5
Canon EOS R5 Mk II and RED Komodo, among many others, when built with lighter accessories.
Its 75mm bowl head provides smooth pan and tilt movement, making it well suited to interviews, corporate filming, documentaries, live events and general filmmaking. Whilst not strictly a fluid head, the geared mechanism gives a smooth movement not far behind the fluid heads. The system is also noticeably lighter than many larger broadcast tripods, making it easier to transport between locations and quicker to deploy when working with smaller crews.
The main compromise compared to higher-end tripod systems is its ground spreader. While perfectly suited to studio floors, pavements and other flat surfaces, it can be more restrictive when filming on rough or uneven ground, where a mid-level spreader offers much greater flexibility. If you regularly shoot on challenging locations, a Sachtler Video 18Sachtler Video 18p Tripod or FSB6
Sachtler FSB 6 Tripod may be the better choice.
For productions that prioritise portability, ease of use and value, the Manfrotto 504HD remains an excellent all-round tripod. It delivers reliable performance without the weight or cost of a larger broadcast support system, making it a popular choice for videographers, content creators, event and documentary makers and professional filmmakers alike.
