More Details

An excellent little mixer in its own right, the Tascam DR-60D is designed to bring a wide range of audio inputs and features normally only found on larger professional cameras to DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. The DR-60D acts as both mixer, controlling levels and inputs, before sending the audio signal to be recorded in camera, and audio recorder, saving a copy with up to 4 channels to a memory card.

The audio out provided by the Tascam DR-60D allows the mixed audio to be recorded in camera as a part of the video file, saving the hassle of syncing the files later in the edit.

The Tascam DR-60D features two combined XLR/quarter inch sockets, each with separate switches to choose line, mic or mic +48v input, and tactile manual dials to control the audio levels. It also has a single 3.5mm stereo input for the third and fourth channels, controlled by a single audio level dial.  The multitude of inputs means that a single camera can, for example, be connected to two radio mics and a boom mic, a set up favoured by documentary filmmakers.

The DR-60D can record up to 4 channels, and like it's younger sibling the DR-40 can record two stereo tracks, with one at a lower level than the other, as a save against sudden increases in volume causing the audio to distort.

When connected to a DSLR or mirrorless camera by the included 3.5mm cable, the output level can be set so the volume on the camera matches that of the DR-60D, and input levels can then be adjusted with ease and confidence on the recorder, without fiddling with the camera.
